2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5: Retro Meets Futuristic

Gaining inspiration from the 1980s, the Ioniq 5 gets some vintage-style inspiration for 2023 but with futuristic electrification. New changes are subtle, as this Hyundai SUV just debuted last year. All-wheel-drive (AWD) models now have an EPA-estimated 266 miles of range, opposed to the previous 256, along with higher slightly higher MPGe ratings. On top of this, all models now have a battery heating system and preconditioning function.
With the 2023 Ioniq 5, the possibilities are endless. Here’s everything you need to know.
Performance
The powertrain for the fully-electric Ioniq 5 has a few different setups to choose from. The first is the standard single, rear-mounted electric motor that produces 168 horsepower. The longer-range battery with rear-wheel-drive (RWD) produces 225 horsepower with 258 lb-ft of torque. This configuration results in the car zooming from 60 mph in 6.4 seconds.
For all that, the all-wheel-drive (AWD) model is much more powerful, producing 320 horsepower with 446 lb-ft of torque. Ultimately, it can speed up to 60 mpg in 4.5 seconds.
Range and Battery
Using the standard 58.0-kWh battery pack, the Ioniq 5 can get 220 miles of electric range. However, the larger 77.4-kWh pack with dual motors has a rating of 266 miles, while its single-motor version has 303 miles. On a full charge, the larger battery can be “refueled” from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes, specifically when using the DC fast charger. The automaker also says it can tack on 68 miles in nearly five minutes.
In-Car Comfort and Cargo
The interior of the latest Ioniq 5 has a technoid atmosphere, flaunting a digital dashboard and several ecological materials. The head-up display with augmented reality can show navigation directions on the windshield, likely one of the most highlighting in-car features.
This crossover uses its fully-electric setup as leverage with a flat floor meant to max out passenger and cargo space. The front seats can also recline and have footrests, which one could use while waiting for their car to charge.
This 5-seater has a generous front- and rear-seat passenger room. The large center console carries plenty of storage space. Then with Limited models, it slides back and forth between the front seats.
Entertainment
Hyundai claims that the Ioniq SUV values connected living, with the compact containing plenty of advanced infotainment and connectivity features. A 12.0-inch touchscreen has a panel on the dashboard with a 12.0-inch digital gauge cluster, but the touchscreen serves as a hub for entertainment features. This encompasses leading voice-recognition software, together with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Safety and Driver-Assistance
In conjunction with a slew of driver-assistance technology, the Ioniq 5 has a drive mode dubbed Highway Driver Assist 2, comparable to General Motor’s Super Cruise system, which can drive on the highway, changing lanes without the need for driver intervention.
