Kevin and Sosie Bacon Get Electric With Hyundai Motors

As the journey for electrification continues to make progression, making the switch may seem quite daunting to some individuals, but Hyundai is doing everything it can and more to turn the EV lifestyle into something everyone can transition to. One of the ways that they are doing this is by highlighting electrification in its national marketing campaign for the all-new fully-electric Ioniq 6 car. Using the campaign’s theme, “It’s Time to Go Electric,” the automaker brings to life this message via broadcasting and social media commercials, specifically starting with Kevin Bacon and his daughter Sosie Bacon. The first ad already aired on January 29th during professional football’s conference championship games.
“With the introduction of the IONIQ 6, Hyundai is once again making the electric vehicle lifestyle more accessible and convenient than ever before,” said Angela Zepeda, CMO of Hyundai Motor America. “If you are someone on the fence of going electric, we hope this campaign starring Kevin and Sosie Bacon will show how early adopters, at any stage in their life, can easily make the switch.”
These 60- and 30-second commercials with the title, Your Dad Is Going Electric,” involve Kevin and Sosie Bacon going for a ride in his new all-electric IONIQ 6. It’s a funny spin on the incredible father-daughter dynamic, showing that even her more experienced and less technologically sophisticated dad has made the switch to EVs before most consumers.
They involve Kevin as an early fan who is enthusiastic about flaunting all the developments and operations of his new hot rod to different strangers. The minute-long ad also directly goes over common concerns regarding charging times and driving range by explaining how the Ioniq 6 can reach from 10% to 80% charge in only 18 minutes on a 350-kW, 800V DC ultra-fast charger, and also has a reliable driving range of up to 361 miles for the Ioniq 6 SE RWD (rear-wheel-drive).
The “Your Dad Is Going Electric” aired last Sunday during both professional football conference championship games. The 30-second companion ad, titled “Grandkids,” continued to journey with Kevin and Sosie Bacon while explaining the beneficial environmental factors that driving in electric cars has for future generations.
Through March, when the Ioniq 6 goes on sale, the ads will continue to show after championship games using broadcasts and digital media platforms. On top of this, social media content will highlight features like charge time, Bluelink, digital key, and more. These posts will ultimately extend to several platforms like YouTube, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
The new ads were directed by Will Speck and Josh Gordon, who are Oscar-nominated film and TV commercial directors. They’re known for their highly alluded GEICO Cavemen commercials. Those ads were produced by award-winning production company Furlined.
The marking campaign for the Ioniq 6 was made in partnership with Hyundai’s agency of record, INNOCEAN USA, while Canvas, its media agency, managed the media buys.
