The 2024 Hyundai Sonata Gives Buyers More Style Choices and Drops Its Low-Powered Engine

Hyundai Motors recently flaunted their refashioned Sonata midsize sedan, which is set to arrive in the North American market as a 2024 model. From our standards, this car looks like a total stud, with designers tweaking the exterior with a new nose, bringing a bit of oomph to the curves.
Though this shouldn’t be considered to be a complete overhaul, these carefully crafted revisions are a bit more dramatic than those familiar with the previous models might be used to.
Hyundai has now revealed details regarding mechanical inner workings and color options. The latest Sonata is gearing up to be much more of a showstopper as it takes the place of the 2023 version.
More Interior Design Choices
Inward, a new curved panoramic display takes over. However, it’s technically two individual screens, one for the driver and the other for infotainment functions. Despite this, they’re lodged together almost as one unit or screen. The shifter now sits by the steering column, allowing a more open feel between the seats.
Style Upgrade
As with most trims, the current 2023 model allows buyers to select between a black interior and a gray one, which can be described as a bit more minimalistic than anything. N-Liners come with differentiating red stitches in the dark gray scheme. Those opting for the top-ranking Limited model also get the choice of an appealing three-tone gray, black, and tan. For the rest, the choices are a bit more standard.
For this upcoming Sonata, buyers have the option of black, two-tone dark and light gray, two-tone dark gray and camel, as well as a gray and navy blue configuration. The N-Line model goes on with its gray and red stitching setup but brings on cool and suave cross-metal patterned garnishes.
Overall, buyers will get a lot more say in the interior design of their new Hyundai car for 2024. This is a significant improvement from 2023.
The Weakest Link Dropped
The interior isn’t the only thing getting a fresh pop of color. Hyundai says that buyers of the upcoming Sonata will have the option of a gasoline-powered 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, or a 2.0-liter hybrid configuration.
The engine options include three out of four powertrain options found in the 2023 Sonata but leave out the more insignificant 1.6-liter turbo engine currently used in the top-tier SEL Plus and Limited models. Trust us when we say that you’re not missing out on much. This has-been only produces 180 horsepower, which is actually 11 less than the engine in the base model…though, its 14 extra points of torque might mean it’s good for something. That configuration meant that the engine with the least amount of power in the previous engine lineup ironically powered one of the most expensive trims, but now that it’s gone, the power that these trims deserve will be given to them.
