The Latest Scoop On Hyundai’s Upcoming Ioniq 7 Model

October 4th, 2023 by

Hyundai, having achieved consecutive victories in the World Car of the Year awards with its Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 EVs, is now gearing up for the release of the Ioniq 7, a three-row electric crossover. Think of it as an electrified rendition of the highly acclaimed Palisade or Hyundai’s response to the Kia EV9. While we’ve already caught glimpses of the Ioniq 7 in its concept form, the eagerly anticipated production version is expected to make its debut shortly. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 7.

Platform and Technology

The Ioniq 7 is poised to utilize Hyundai Group’s dedicated E-GMP architecture, the same platform underpinning the Kia EV9. This platform offers a flat floor, providing versatility and a spacious interior. Notably, it incorporates cutting-edge 800V fast-charging technology, capable of delivering a full charge in less than 20 minutes (or less than 25 minutes for the Kia EV9).

Range Expectations

While Hyundai has yet to officially disclose the range figures for the Ioniq 7, it has hinted that the Seven concept, on which it is based, will offer over 300 miles of range. Hyundai’s expertise suggests that this ambitious target could well be met, especially considering that the EV9 is estimated to reach 300 miles with a single-motor rear-wheel-drive configuration and a larger battery pack.

Design and Aesthetics

Camouflaged prototypes of the Ioniq 7 have been spotted during testing alongside the Kia EV9. Although both vehicles share similar proportions, the Hyundai exhibits a sportier, more streamlined appearance. It is expected to incorporate Hyundai’s distinctive “Parametric Pixel” design language, as seen in the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and the Seven concept.

Performance Potential

Hyundai has not yet revealed specific power output details for the Ioniq 7. However, the top-tier dual-motor Kia EV9 boasts an impressive 379 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a swift 5.0 seconds. Given this, it is plausible that the Ioniq 7 will feature a similar dual-motor setup.

Interior Expectations

Although the Seven concept showcased innovative elements like coach doors, swiveling seats, an L-shaped rear sofa, and a full glass roof, these extravagant features are not anticipated to make it to the production Ioniq 7. Recent sightings of the vehicle during testing have revealed conventional rear-opening doors. Safety considerations are expected to exclude the North American market from receiving the second-row swivel seats featured in the concept. However, Hyundai may retain some sustainability-focused interior elements and borrow design cues from the well-received interiors of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.

Pricing and Release Timeline

While precise pricing details are currently unavailable, it is safe to assume that the Ioniq 7 will occupy the upper echelon of Hyundai’s lineup, surpassing the Palisade’s starting price of $35,900*. The Kia EV9’s American pricing remains undisclosed but leaked information indicates a range from $56,000* for the base model to $73,000* for the top-tier variant. Consequently, the Ioniq 7 is expected to fall within this price bracket.

Hyundai has not yet provided a definitive timeline for the Ioniq 7’s launch. However, the Seven concept was unveiled in December 2021, and speculations point toward an unveiling of the production version in late 2023 or early 2024, with a potential mid-2024 launch as a 2025 model-year vehicle.
